If you witnessed Amalio Mucciarone, a United States Navy retiree from Margate, New Jersey, schussing down the powdery ski slopes of Camelback Mountain Resort in the Pocono Mountains or the scenic slopes of Vermont, chances are you’d never guess two things about him. First, he is 82 years old. Mucciarone learned to ski at age 54 and has been passionate about the sport ever since. Second, just this past year, he underwent his second total knee replacement surgery, at the Joint Institute at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

Mucciarone said he feels better than he has in years. He skis approximately 30 days each season. He also bikes 20 miles a day, four to five days per week, weather-permitting. He takes deep-water jogging classes at the Milton and Betty Katz Jewish Community Center in Margate, New Jersey five days a week.

Knee replacement surgery allows football coach to stay at the top of his game

Frank Fucetola, of Hammonton, head football coach and physical education teacher at Williamstown High School, has dedicated his career to coaching and mentoring teens for the past 38 years. He challenges his players to always give their best and lives by this principle himself. In 2005, Fucetola was diagnosed with arthritis. In the following years it became progressively worse.

“In addition to aching and soreness, the arthritis was making me bow-legged and I was starting to walk with a limp,” explained Fucetola. “Ideally, a coach should be able to show players the moves, but I was becoming very limited in what I could do.”...
